About Sundarpur Tea Estate

Once upon a time in 1925, a man named P.C. Borooah founded the Sundarpur Tea Estate. With hard work and dedication, he brought his dream to life and created a legacy that would last for generations to come. And so, the Sundarpur Tea Estate came into existence, a testament to the power of one person's determination and passion. In the year 1975, the administration of the plantation was handed over to Jayanta Kumar Borooah. In the year 1997, Sundarpur Tea Estate achieved the prestigious certification of being an organic tea estate by the renowned Rainforest Alliance

The specialty of Sundarpur Tea Estate is its full-bodied, malty Assam tea with a strong, lingering flavor. The tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, which are grown in the rich, fertile soil of the Assam region. The tea is processed using traditional methods, and is carefully monitored throughout the production process to ensure that it meets the high standards of Sundarpur Tea Estate.

  • Assam Orthodox: This tea is made using traditional methods and is characterized by its full-bodied flavour and malty aroma.

  • Assam CTC: This tea is made using a more modern method, and is characterized by its strong, lingering flavour.

 

On September 14th, 2013, the Trustea code was officially launched. This code was created to assess the impact on the environment, safety, and livelihoods. The code was field tested and Sundarpur Tea Estate was one of the six pilots selected for the test. The estate achieved compliance within the first year, making it the second in India to do so. Additionally, it became the first estate in North-East India to be trustea verified.

  • By bus: There are regular buses from Tezpur to Sundarpur Tea Estate. You can get off at the Sundarpur Tea Estate bus stop and then walk to the estate. The total travel time is about 1 hour.
