About Pahargoomiah Tea Estate

Pahargoomiah Tea Estate is in the Terai region, the shadow of the Himalayas; the transboundary Terai Arc belt stretches from Nepal's Bagmati River in the east to India's Yamuna River in the west covering an area of 51,000 sq. km. Pahargoomiah Tea Estate was established on May 5, 1891, under the reign of the British Raj, and the era in which it began operations was a remarkable one. This was the time when the now-famous tea bag and iced tea were first introduced to the world.

In 1991, Padmanabhan Jalan, Deepak Bachhawat, Sudarshan Jalan, And Mahendra Kumar Bachhawat established the company. The Pahargoomiah tea estate has continued to uphold its legacy by producing batches of exceptional CTC teas that delight the senses and warm the hearts of tea enthusiasts worldwide. The estate covers an area of 1,716 acres and has an annual production of around 14 lakh kilograms of tea.

  • By car: The nearest major city is Siliguri, which is about 250 kilometres from Pahargoomiah Tea Estate. You can take the NH31 highway from Siliguri to reach Pahargoomiah Tea Estate. The total driving time is about 5 hours.

  • By train: The nearest railway station is Siliguri Junction Railway Station, which is about 240 kilometres from Pahargoomiah Tea Estate. You can take a train from Siliguri to Sivok Railway Station and then take a taxi or bus to Pahargoomiah Tea Estate. The total travel time is about 6 hours.

Once you reach Pahargoomiah Tea Estate, you can contact the tea factory to arrange for a tour of the estate. The factory is open from 9am to 5pm, and tours are available at 10am, 11am, 2pm, and 3pm.
