About Nuxabari Tea Estate

Nuxalbari Tea Estate, situated in the Darjeeling District, is a sprawling 1200-acre property and is one of the oldest tea estates in India. It was founded in 1884 by Khan Bahadur Musharraf Hussain, the Nawab of Jalpaiguri. He imported the best tea seeds from China, and he hired the best workers to tend to his work. As a result, Nuxalbari Tea Estate quickly became one of the most successful tea estates in India.

It is situated at an altitude of 700 feet above sea level in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas. The estate is about 15 minutes from Bagdogra Airport and 1 hour from New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Railway Station.The estate is surrounded by lush green hills and forests, and the air is filled with the scent of tea. The estate is a great place to relax and enjoy a cup of tea.

Hussain's daughter, Sayeeda Badrunissa, inherited the estate after his death. She also established a trust to provide financial assistance to the workers' families in times of need.

After Badrunissa's death, the estate was inherited by her granddaughter, Dolly Jabbar. Jabbar is a successful businesswoman, and she has continued to build on the legacy of her grandmother. She has also worked to improve the quality of Nuxalbari Tea Estate's products, and she has won numerous awards for her efforts.

Sonia Jabbar is the current owner and managing director of Nuxalbari Tea Estate. She is the fifth generation of her family to own the estate, and the third consecutive woman to lead it. Jabbar took over the estate in 2011 after her mother, Dolly Jabbar, retired. The estate has been owned and operated by the same family for over 120 years.

  • Nuxalbari Tea Estate provides, the 3-Day Tea Connoisseur's Course: Growing Tea, Crafting Tea. It is a comprehensive introduction to the world of tea. The course covers everything from the growing and harvesting of tea leaves to the different methods of processing and brewing tea.

Nuxalbari Tea Estate has won the Grand Gold Price at the 2022 World Black Tea Competition in Beijing. The estate's winning tea was a black tea called "Nuxalbari Special Gold.

  • By car: The nearest major city is Siliguri, which is about 70 kilometers from Nuxabari Tea Estate. You can take the NH31 highway from Siliguri to reach Nuxabari Tea Estate. The total driving time is about 1.5 hours.

  • By train: The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, which is about 50 kilometers from Nuxabari Tea Estate. You can take a train from Siliguri to New Jalpaiguri and then take a taxi or bus to Nuxabari Tea Estate. The total travel time is about 2 hours.

  • By bus: There are regular buses from Siliguri to Darjeeling. You can get off at the Darjeeling Bus Stand and then take a taxi or bus to Nuxabari Tea Estate. The total travel time is about 2 hours.

Once you reach Nuxabari Tea Estate, you can contact the tea factory to arrange for a tour of the estate. The factory is open from 9am to 5pm, and tours are available at 10am, 11am, 2pm, and 3pm.
