Makaibari means "field of corn" in Bengali. Makaibari Tea Estate is one of the oldest tea gardens in Darjeeling, India. Makaibari is located in the town of kurseong, West Bengal, India. They have been in the tea business for over one hundred years, and their tea gardens are infamous in the country.

The family's foresightedness and dedication to quality has helped them to build a successful business that has stood the test of time. It is the first estate developed by the British government to cultivate tea in India in 1850. The factory was founded in 1859.

In 1850, he established his first tea garden in Darjeeling. This was a bold move at the time, as tea was not yet a major crop in India. Rajah Banerjee's son, Swaraj Kumar Banerjee, took over the family business He continued his father's legacy of innovation and quality, and he expanded the family's tea empire. Under his leadership, the Banerjees became one of the largest tea-growing families in India.
